Prospero Health & Social Care has lots of opportunities for work as a community care worker, and a residential support worker.

What does a Community Care Worker do?

As a Community Care Worker, your main responsibility is to provide support to individuals in their homes. Most of the individuals you’ll be working with will be older people, some of whom may have mobility difficulties or a diagnosis of dementia.

Your responsibilities will include providing personal care, meal preparation, and housework. Most importantly, you’ll need to be a warm and friendly presence in their lives, offering a listening ear when they need you.

Personal care may include:

  • Helping with mobility and movement around the house
  • Preparing and feeding meals
  • Supporting with continence care and toileting
  • Providing support with bathing or showering
  • Helping individuals get dressed
  • Prompting or assisting with medication administration

It’s important to note that each individual’s care plan will vary, so your responsibilities will depend on the person you’re supporting.

Where does a Community Care Worker work?

Community Care Workers work in their service users’ homes. You’ll travel between different locations over the course of your working day, but you’ll work within a certain area.

What hours does a Care Worker work?

Working as a Care Worker can offer a lot of flexibility. Our service users need support at all hours of the day and night, so you can choose full or part-time hours, or even a flexible hours role. You might work early or late day shifts, or overnight. Our Community Care Workers work weekdays and weekends, so you may need to work Saturdays and Sundays.

What qualifications does a Care Worker need?

You don’t need any qualifications to start as a Care Worker. At Prospero Health and Social Care, we look for individuals who are compassionate, friendly, and eager to help others. We provide all necessary training, including online learning and shadowing a Senior Care Assistant to build your confidence.

We’ll also run a DBS check on you to ensure you have no history that might disqualify you for the role. You’ll be able to obtain your Care Certificate within three months of starting your role, and we provide regular training refreshers and update sessions to ensure your skills are up-to-date.
